Does anyone know the name of a war film about a young boy going to war and a priest trying to stop him?

The film was made in the 1980's (I think) and I only really remember
the ending.

It was an English language film about a young man (12-14) who joined
the Germans in battle. I think his name was Hans.

Just before the final battle scene a priest tries to talk him out of
fighting, but he went ahead and fought against this advice. There was
a scene where he was on a high storey window and a bazooka was fired
at him.

The young man dies in the battle and the priest finds him on the
battle field after the fight is over.
