Read Costumer Edith Head's Amazing Dress Code for the 1968 Oscars

It’s hard to be obsessed with the Oscars sometimes because they’re often predictable, boring, and tolerant of things like Black Swan, but VINTAGE OSCARS is a whole different story. I could think about the discarded wedding dress Lee Grant wore for her Shampoo victory in ‘76 for days. And I have. Even better now, the Academy has released a dress code that legendary costumer Edith Head wrote for the 1968 ceremony. It is cold, direct, and bossy. It is awesome. Check it out: This is the signature Edith Head rigidity you see in Grace Kelly’s Rear Window wardrobe — only verbalized! We in the Academy are delighted to know that you will appear on our 40th Awards presentation Telecast Monday, April 8th.However, so many questions have been asked about the style of dress expected on stage that I send you this information:Actresses are requested to wear formal evening gowns either Maxi or floor length, preferably pastel shades since the setting is very formal and done entirely in white and gold. As you know, long dresses (no Mini or day length) are more graceful on stage and on camera in this type of background. The Academy feels that the dignity of this traditional affair on our 40th Anniversary deserves formal dress.Men are expected to wear white tie with conventional formal evening accessories. NO DAY LENGTH DRESSES, PLEBES. Should I be shocked or titillated that Estelle Parsons, who picked up a trophy for Supporting Actress at the ‘68 ceremony, wore an all-black number? Well, it’s Estelle Parsons, so I suppose I’m shocked and titillated anyway. I hope Edith Head smacked her around a little. 84 Great Oscar Moments [Oscars]

'Glee,' 'Sons of Anarchy' Added to Amazon Prime Instant Video Streaming Service

NY - Credit Suisse analyst Spencer Wang on Friday lowered his advertising revenue growth forecast for Viacom's current quarter from 6 percent to 3 percent, citing the much-discussed ratings weakness at kids channel Nickelodeon.our editor recommendsNickelodeon vs. Nielsen: Who's to Blame for the Network's Plummeting Ratings?Wall Street Weighs Viacom's Outlook Amid Ad, Nickelodeon Ratings Challenges He also cut his earnings per share projection for what is the entertainment company's fiscal first quarter by 4 cents to $1.02. Nickelodeon's ratings are down less when looking at ratings data from alternative sources as compared to figures from media measurement firm Nielsen, but the channel is still trending lower, he wrote in a report entitled "It's 10 PM, Do You Know Where Your Children Are?" Some have wondered whether increased availability of online content may have hurt Nickelodeon. "We do not believe Nick content availability of Netflix is the culprit," Wang said though. "Using third-party data, the majority of new avails on Netflix debuted in February, which does not coincide with the ratings decline that became pronounced in the fall. Rather, it appears that declines in overall viewership in the people 2-11 demo and ratings share shift to Disney Channel are the main reasons." Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman has said that the sudden fall decline in Nickelodeon ratings may be due to problems with Nielsen's data. "Our review of alternative set-top box data finds that Nick ratings are still down year-over-year, the trend is similar (e.g. deterioration over the course of the quarter), but the magnitude of the decline is mid to high single digits" rather than a mid-teens drop in Nielsen's ratings, Wang wrote. At the end of the day, "Nielsen ratings remain the currency for TV advertising," the Credit Suisse analyst highlighted in his report, echoing latest comments from Dauman earlier this week. "With the ratings weakness, our bottoms up analysis finds that Nick has limited scatter inventory in the fiscal first quarter given make goods." Jane Fonda Opens Up About Her Father, Her Return to Acting and the Lesson She Learned From Warren Beatty

John Shearer/Getty ImagesHelen Mirren After four years in development at Paramount, Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho is in the process of being set up at Fox Searchlight.our editor recommendsEXCLUSIVE: Anthony Hopkins in Talks to Play Alfred Hitchcock Anthony Hopkins, who is attached to play Hitchcock, and Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil), who is directing, are making the move and are being joined by Helen Mirren, who will play the filmmaker's wife, Alma Reville. Montecito Picture Co., which has a first-look deal with Paramount and set it up there in 2007, remains on board as producer. Sources caution that the dealmaking behind the move and Mirren boarding is in the early stages, but an April production start is being eyed. (Hopkins and Gervasi have been associated with the project for almost a year.) The project is based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello that tracks how Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a "lowly" horror movie. No studio wanted to touch it initially, so Hitchcock scrounged for financing by himself. The movie, of course, became one of his biggest hits and one of the most influential of all time. At the center of the script by John McLaughlin (Black Swan) and Rebello is the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife. Angelina Jolie To Star In Upcoming Luc Besson Film?

The sky's the limit after you've won an Oscar. You can pair up with your good-looking counterparts for an ostentatious action film. You can lend your voice to a cartoon about kung-fu animals. You can even go for another Oscar, why not? But the ultimate moment of FTW excess has to be starring in a Luc Besson film. Rejuvenating actors as action stars from Statham to Neeson, Besson's hyperkinetic blow outs have charmed American audiences, killed at the box office, and above all, done one important thing: made their stars look really, really awesome. It makes sense, then, that Angelina Jolie is the latest actress to get on the Besson bandwagon. According to Deadline, Jolie is in talks to "star next spring in a dramatic thriller that is rooted in true scientific elements." Yeah, scientific elements like people getting shot a lot! As they write, it'll be probably be closer to earlier Besson films like "The Professional" and "The Fifth Element." That's just fine by us, as those are probably his most satisfying movies. Otherwise, Jolie's staying busy. Besides her perpetual life in front of paparazzi cameras, her directorial debut, "In The Land of Blood and Honey," is coming out soon. If you didn't see, we talked to her yesterday about the movie's themes and how she thinks it'll resonate with audiences. "This young audience will be interested because [of] the characters they'll identify with them," Jolie said. "This is the '90s. They may have been children or not alive during that time, but they're watching people who were 18 years old, 10 years old in a European cosmopolitan society, and it's what would have happened if they went to war." Angelina Jolie talks "Blood and Honey" reactions! Tell us what you think of Jolie's upcoming Besson project in the comments section and on Twitter!

Gerard Butler on Ralph Fiennes As a Director: 'He's a Master'

Gerard Butler toting a machine gun isn't a surprise -- he did star in 'Machine Gun Preacher' earlier this year -- but his latest role as a soldier has a twist: The film is modern-day but the dialogue is pure Shakespeare. In the first big-screen adaptation of Shakepeare's play 'Coriolanus,' Butler plays the sworn enemy of Ralph Fiennes's title character, until circumstances forces Coriolanus to switch sides and seek him out as an ally. Butler spoke to Moviefone about his history with this particular Shakespeare play and what Fiennes, who steps behind the camera for the first time, is like as a director. People might be surprised to learn you have a Shakespearean background. That is an interesting story. The first professional job I had as an actor was 'Coriolanus.' I begged the director to let me come in and read, and I got the role. Even thought I was only in the ensemble, I suddenly had a job as an actor and it was the happiest moment of my life. Then I was performing on the West End every night and I was thinking, "How did I get here? I am an impostor." Cut to a few years later, there's a script sitting on my desk and my agent tells me, "Ralph's called a bunch of times and he's desperate for you to play this role." And I just thought, "Oh my God!" It's kind of a great yardstick for measuring your success. The script was phenomenal, just stripped down beautifully by John Logan, who wrote 'Gladiator' and 'The Aviator.' What was filming like? It was a great experience. My first two days, I was working with Vanessa Redgrave who was giving a big speech and I think that I witnessed the greatest speech I've ever witnessed from an actor. It was her doing this as an Oscar-winning performance. The film itself is very powerful and of the moment. I've had the good fortune of seeing it screened in front of audiences and it goes down a storm and it's been brilliantly reviewed. How is Ralph as a director? He's a master. It was his directorial debut but you have a hard time convincing me of that, because it felt like he was coming off movie number 50. He had such control of everything and especially the performances. I felt free to do whatever I wanted and completely supported. Because it was a big deal, me taking on a large Shakespeare role and yet I felt like I was in incredibly confident, intelligent and appreciative hands. I knew whenever he stepped in, his notes were very specific. Artistically I knew we were making something that was really going to stand out. I saw the way he handled actors far greater than myself like Redgrave and Brian Cox and the respect that they had for him. And yet Ralph is also one of the best actors who ever lived. So you're kind of being handled from all sides in the best way, both form a directorial and actor's perspective. He has such an understanding of humanity, of culture, of storytelling, of narrative and stylistically as well. It was really a treat to be part of it, to try and bring my game up to be a part of it. 'Coriolanus' is now playing in NY and Los Angeles. It'll open in more cities on January 20. [Photo: Weinstein Co.] Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook

'I'd Receive' wins Huelva

HUELVA, Spain-- Beto Brant and Renato Ciasca's steamy melodrama, "I'd Receive the Worst News From Your Beautiful Lips," won the top Golden Colombus Saturday at Andalusia's 37th Huelva Ibero-American Festival. The plaudit, plus a cinematography nod for Lula Araujo, serve as artistic vindication for one of Brazil's first recent new wave directors to attract international attention with stylish thrillers such as 1997's "Belly Up" and "Friendly Fire" a year later. One of the biggest local preems at October's Rio Festival, "I'd Receive" won Camila Pitanga best actress but proved a talking point more for its vigorous sex scenes than artistic achievement.Huelva's Special Jury Prize went to Argentina's "The Cat Vanishes," a psychological thriller turning around marital mistrust that marks a change of direction for its director Carlos Sorin.Otherwise, major kudos went to directors that, though not necessarily much younger than Brant, have broken through abroad in the last ten years. The biggest winner and a buzzed up title at Huelva was Andres Wood ("Machuca") whose Chilean Oscar entry, "Violeta Went to Heaven," scooped direction and, predictably, actress (Francisca Gavilan), for its portrait of singer-songwriter Violeta Parra. Osmar Nunez nabbed actor for his perf as Argentine ruler Juan Peron in Paula de Luque's "Juan and Eva."Screenplay went to Colombian director Carlos Moreno and his regular writing partner Alonso Torres for Sundance player "All Your Dead Ones," a blackly comic vision of local authority and media treatment of Colombia's mass killings.Popular at March's Guadalajara Fest, Mexican first-timer Patricia Martinez de Velasco's family comedy "Between Us" re-confirmed its crowd-pleasing potential winning Huelva's audience award.Fest ran Nov.19-26. His wife explained further: "I was kneeling in front of him and slapping his face." The man's name was not given because he was afraid he would lose his job. Breaking Dawn features Bella's violent pregnancy of her child with her significant other, vampire Edward. Medical experts said that the film's birth scene -- which features red, white and black images -- could have triggered episodes of photosensitive epilepsy. "It's like a light going off because it hits your brain all at once," Dr. Michael G. Chez tells CBS Sacramento. "The trouble with theaters is that they're so dark, the light flashing in there is more like a strobe light." This isn't the first instance of a film causing moviegoers to feel uncomfortable. During screenings of Danny Boyle's 127 Hours, which tells the story of climber Aron Ralston whose arm is trapped by a boulder in a Utah canyon, it has caused some moviegoers to vomit and faint, with one taken out of the theater and an ambulance called. Allow the Alien conjecturing begin!Particulars on Ridley Scott's approaching sci-fi (and purported Alien prequel) Prometheus happen to be few in number, however Entertainment Weekly have fresh images and particulars from Scott's set.Boasting the acting talents of Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Ben Promote and Michael Fassbender (being an android), the castlist alone could be enough to obtain people having to pay attention, but as it is in the guy who introduced us the initial Alien, fans are conjecturing their keyboards off attempting to draw links between your much-loved franchise which new sci-fi epic."There's certainly a hyperlink to Alien," states Fassbender. "You will find animals inside it that you will recognise..."The look that EWhave launched to the web looks, well, very strangely photoshopped, using the lights round the characters' suits supplying an ideal lamp-shade for that retouching that appears to possess gone on.However ,, that isn't important. What's important may be the atmosphere and also the apparent high-budget design that's happening -- some reviews have stated the price of the film is upwards from $200 million -- and, you realize, that damn large face in it in what is known as "The Ampule Room."Just just in case you had been wondering, the image shows enthusiasts Holloway (Logan Marshall-Eco-friendly carrying out a good impersonation of Tom Sturdy) and Elizabeth (Noomi Rapace) walking through TheAmpule Room alongside their robot butler - of the sort - David (Michael Fassbender) in the world their ship has crash arrived on.It's all regulated very mystical, it's all regulated very cosmic, it's all regulated very mysterious. Nickelodeon sees 20% ratings drop

Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said generally steady-eddy kids' cable network Nickelodeon had experienced a highly unusual 15%-20% ratings drop in mid-September. The company is working with Nielsen and analyzing independent set-top box data and, at the same time, adding fresh animated and live-action programming to the net, Dauman said during a conference call to discuss Viacom's latest quarter earning, which were strong. He implied it's possible there could have been some measurement error since the set-top box data doesn't seem to match up with Nielsen's figures. "The set-top box data is not showing the data that shows the declines that Nielson is showing," he said. But he noted that the numbers have improved over the past several days. He called the situation "anomalous" and "a short-term phenomenon." But he said it came at a particularly vexing time in early fall when toy companies are looking to advertise for the holidays. "We have to make it up to them and it's not something you can recapture," he said. Nick's woes plus a softening of volume in the scatter market could make it hard for the company to reach the double digital growth in advertising revenue that it had aspired to in the current quarter "but it's hard to tell where we will fall exactly." He noted that Viacom had been able to maintain healthy margins, even grow them, throughout the recent recession. Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

It's Official (Again): FCC Arbitrarily Punished CBS For Janet Jackson 'Wardrobe Malfunction'

Getty Images Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" may have been fleeting but the wheels of justice certainly are not. More than seven years after Jackson exposed her breast during the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal has once again determined the FCC has failed to justify a decision to fine CBS for indecency.our editor recommendsJanet Jackson Cancels Shows to Be With Family During Conrad Murray TrialTop 10 Highest Paid Music ArtistsAppeals Court Strikes Down FCC Fine For Infamous Super Bowl 'Wardrobe Malfunction' After the "wardrobe malfunction," the FCC began cracking down on indecency on the TV airwaves. For what happened on February 1, 2004, the FCC fined CBS a record $550,000. CBS appealed the decision and in 2008, 3rd Circuit judge Marjorie Rendell overturned the fine on the reasoning that the commission had not given the networks enough advanced notice and acted arbitrarily in enforcing indecency policies. VIDEOS: Super Bowl's Most Iconic Commercials The case then went before the U.S. Supreme Court,, which remanded the case back to the 3rd Circuit for further consideration. The high court justices found that the FCC was "entirely rational" when changing its policy, but left open the question whether the fine violated the network's constitutional rights. Tasked with reviewing the "wardrobe malfunction" case once again, Justice Rendell reaches pretty much the same conclusion as the first time. STORY: FCC to Review Janet Jackson Incident "While we can understand the Supreme Court's desire that we re-examine our holdings in light of its opinion in Fox," writes Rendell, referring to a similar case involving fleeting obscenities on television, "We conclude that, if anything, Fox confirms our previous ruling in this case and that we should readopt our earlier analysis and holding that the Commission acted arbitrarily in this case." Shame Smacked With NC-17 As Predicted

The MPAA has given an NC-17 rating towards the Steve McQueen-directed Shame, which is what Deadline said happens when we broke the storyline that Fox Searchlight had acquired it at the beginning of this year's Toronto Film Festival. The rating was worked for “some explicit sexual content,” which essentially implies that Michael Fassbender goes Full Monty through a lot of the film. McQueen expected this rating, and also the deal stipulated the winning distributor wouldn't be allowed to alter a frame of the film that everyone understood could be NC-17. Fox Searchlight will put on that rating just like a badge, regardless of the restrictions that include attempting to market NC-17. Nobody feels this can be a gimmick, and Shame gets great critical response and provides Fassbender a genuine shot in an Oscar nomination. This can be the nearest factor to Last Tango in Paris or Night time Cowboy that people’ve observed in a significant very long time.

Zachary Quinto on Margin Call, Occupy Wall Street and also the Business of Being Released

It’s been a hell of the fall to date for Zachary Quinto, that has adopted his appearance in recently’s Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number? having a forthcoming role within the Forex hit American Horror Story and also the lead in author-director J.C. Chandor’s superb economic-meltdown drama Margin Call. And that he centered head lines last weekend after formally being released as gay. Pretty good! But as Quinto told Movieline now in NY, Margin Call continues to be focus for the time being, and permanently reason: Besides the film feature perhaps Quinto’s best performance up to now like a youthful financial analyst who reveals an emergency within the making at his investment bank, it signifies the 34-year-old actor’s feature creating debut. He made it happen with class, too, rounding up a great ensemble including Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci, Paul Bettany, Demi Moore, Simon Baker and Penn Badgley. The film opens Friday following a warm receptions captured in the Sundance, Berlin and New Company directors/New Films festivals. I spoke to Quinto about flowing his ambition into Margin Call, the coincidental timing of their release opposite the continuing Occupy Wall Street protests, and both political and professional implications of being released. I'd no clue what to anticipate starting Margin Call, however i really loved it. How have you try it? I began a production company 3 years ago, and that we’ve been creating a myriad of various things. We released two graphic books, we investigated some short-film content online, we’ve been developing televisions. Which was the very first feature that people got behind and desired to produce. So for all of us, there is a great deal on the line, you realize? We met J.C. in a meeting when he was in L.A. about 2 yrs ago, and that he told us concerning the project, and that he gave us a duplicate from it. All of us went home that evening — I've two partners — and that we known as one another the following morning and stated, “This could it be.” There is just this type of unanimity into it, also it grew to become really obvious in line with the integrity and quality from the material — put into the affability of and perspective of J.C. Which was the start. That which was the first instinct: To create in order to act? It had been always when it comes to creating i was searching for my opportunity’s first movie. As well as for me with projects, they’re not mutually exclusive — they’re not determined by each other. We’ve made three movies now, and that i’m only in that one. It’s good in cases like this — using the first project — which i’m involved being an actor and could depend on that exposure, which association to create this declaration about my opportunity. But yeah, I needed to do something it inside it after i see clearly. It had been something I felt compelled to complete. However it wasn’t either or any nothing it had been always a conversation of both things. You will find a number of roles within this film you could have performed. Why Peter? From the practical perspective, I believe that my maturity and my sensibility lend themselves most appropriately to Peter. But inside an imaginative way, I had been really attracted into him because, to begin with, I believe he’s the portal for that audience into the field of this movie. He’s accountable for causeing this to be discovery and it is kind of the catalyst with this information moving to an advaced status inside the chain of command from the corporation. But he's a apparently rooted moral compass, which will get tossed off throughout his journey. And That I loved that — which was something I had been really thinking about. I am talking about, I am inclined to be attracted to figures who've some degree of internal complexity or ambiguity or duality, and that i thought he wasn't any exception to that particular. This cast is amazing, clearly. That which was your role in assisting assemble these stars, if any? I had been pretty instrumentally involved with creating the film all the way, but especially at first — whenever we were meeting bankers and pitching the film. I had been really involved for the reason that phase from it. As well as the casting phase. I had been reaching to stars directly, and speaking for their reps and getting conversations and establishing conferences on and on to conferences with J.C. along with other stars. I had been really, really involved for the reason that, because that’s where becoming an actor during my own right enables me to make use of individuals contacts which i have which access which i have that a person visiting the table just wanting to make a movie certainly doesn't have. Therefore the assets of my agency and my management company and every one of that stuff were really useful on the way too. Exactly what do you choose up from men like Jeremy Irons and Kevin Spacey — as well as more youthful peers like Paul Bettany, even Penn Badgley — whenever you’re likely to operate in this atmosphere every single day? There’s an enormous professionalism, commitment, readiness, punctuality, confidence, spontaneity… It had been a very enjoyable production. Also it was every single day — the training were just such an element of the experience. Dealing with these stories themselves made me feel inspired and challenged in the easiest way possible. The timing of the film’s release couldn't be superior — not just due to the ongoing economic malaise, however it coincides using the Occupy Wall Street protests. Are you currently lower there whatsoever? I haven’t been lower to Zucotti Park now I’ve been so busy here doing press for that movie. It’s type of funny: I accidentally got taken up inside a movement these were doing around the Upper East Side yesterday. I would a conference and crossing over Park Avenue and heard all of this chanting and saw these cops, and that i recognized the movement was chanting outdoors Rupert Murdoch’s house along with other CEOs’ houses around the Upper East Side. I figured which was really awesome, and when I hadn’t had somewhere to become, i quickly’m i might have adopted them for a while to determine in which the energy was moving. However, you know, I believe we never might have anticipated this. This really is presents in the world that this conversation is going on which movement is attaining a lot momentum at this time once we’re putting this movie out. It’s really incredible. Could it be really in good taste for celebs to be also lower there? There’s a exploitation factor to some extent — men like Kanye, for instance, who otherwise brags about being one of the 1 %? Could it be better to step back? Or does that deny you of your family to protest like a citizen? Well, I’ve certainly protested other activities during my existence, and so i think for me personally, it’s concerning the message. And i believe the Occupy Wall Street movement continues to be attempting to define and clarify its message. It’s a real type of intriguing and amorphous movement I don’t think it arrived on the scene from the gate knowing clearly its perspective — its manifesto, as they say. And So I’m just really thinking about seeing how that originates. However when they are doing develop that declarative position also it’s something which resonates personally, then go ahead and I would like to become involved. I believe they are exactly the sorts of conversations that should be happening within this country. But what worries me may be the divisiveness of those conversations and exactly how they have a tendency to simply be ideological debates where one for reds is totally invalidating and undermining the positioning of the other part. That’s regrettably the political climate that people appear to become residing in nowadays, and i believe it’s really what must change. So that as lengthy we perpetuate these cycles of, you realize, back-and-forth and round-and-round, then nothing’s likely to change, also it’s likely to be a lot more destructive than productive. Not to mention you lately designed a pretty significant get up on a social problem by openly proclaiming your sexual orientation. How can you plan to guide that create forward? It’s a large a part of why Used to do it. I seem like Used to do it during my own time, by myself terms, during my own words — that we’ve always is when it might happen when it's about time. And That I just felt like I'd help in any manner feels organic. And That I’m certain since I’ve chose to make this statement and acknowledgment, possibilities will show themselves in several ways. And That I anticipate being to satisfy individuals possibilities with integrity and open myself as much as helping a conversation move ahead in ways which i believe that it needs to for those us — not only with regard to gay people or straight people or whatever. It’s with regard to humanity that we have to be searching at these problems with increased empathy and much more acceptance and much more openness and fewer judgment and intolerance. Like a producer, can there be almost anything to be stated for proclaiming this a few days your movie arrives? Instead of what? To create visibility the film. Which was never, ever by any means part of my intention. It was something which was an intensely personal decision and intensely thought-out. I gave it lots of thought and attention. It's nothing related to marketability or visibility. I am talking about, I’d prefer to be doing the work in colaboration with a film that I've got a significant impact in getting to deal with and getting to existence than at every other time for you to just generate attention for me personally myself. I’m making lots of terms now — like a producer, being an actor, as somebody who’s thinking about human privileges and wishes to help advance individuals conversations. And So I dismiss that idea completely. Thinking about the inescapability of other subjects like Star Trek or Heroes, though, have you got worries about adding another subject towards the conversation that precedes as well as limits speaking regarding your work? I don’t really realize that type of questioning. I’m really thinking about speaking about my movie, and that i’m really thinking about speaking about problems that are important: My are an actress, and my belief that individuals have to start opening to one another with increased tolerance and much more acceptance. I am talking about, they’re totally separate things. I seem like my jobs are my work, and my political perspectives and social perspectives are just that, and that i’ll discuss them if this’s appropriate. So no, I don’t expect it’ll limit me or restrict me by any means. [Top photo: Getty Images]

Kellan Lutz: Breaking Dawn Has A Lot More Skin

First Published: October 18, 2011 3:56 PM EDT Credit: Getty Images LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Kellan Lutz attends the Tommy Hilfiger Mens Spring 2012 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at The Highline on September 9, 2011Kellan Lutz says the upcoming Breaking Dawn, the fourth film in The Twilight Saga, is a lot more mature than its predecessors. Theres a lot more skin, first of all. Its for a more mature audience. Our audience has grown up with us, and we have to grow along with them, he told The Advocate, when asked if director Bill Condon brought a gay sensibility to the franchise. The original high school fans are in college now, and they want to see more skin. Bill has Taylor Lautner topless all the time, so theres some great eye-candy. We have so many cast members in the movie, I wouldnt be surprised if one of the characters was gay and I just didnt know it. Id be all for it, he added. Kellan himself has been plagued with a gay rumor or two, but the straight actor told the mag, its likely due to his dating style. I dont Google myself, but Ive heard that people think Im gay. Ive heard it all, the actor told the magazine. See, I dont really go after girls. Most of the girlfriends Ive had have come after me. The actor said his laid-back romance style has prompted girls to say things about his sexuality. Its really funny when girls get offended because I dont hit on them. Theyll transform their insecurity into, Oh, that makes sense, because I heard youre into guys and have a boyfriend. Im like, Seriously? Thats your tactic to get me to like you? There will always be rumors, but I know who I am, he added. And one of the things Kellan knows about himself is that he likes a tidy home. Honestly, Id prefer to live with gay guys, he told The Advocate of his roommate preferences. Theyre the cleanest, and they just take care of stuff. Because Im always away, coming home to a clean house means a lot to me. Trust me, Ive lived with a lot of roommates, and straight guys are just kids who dont pick up after themselves. Thing Director Reviving Army Of Dead?

Zack Snyder's zombies resurfaceWay back when he was still working on Watchmen, director Zack Snyder was talking about a not-quite-sequel to his Dawn of the Dead. The project had seemed to quietly slip away recently, but new The Thing director Matthijs Van Heijningen has revealed that there may be life in Army of the Dead yet.Snyder wrote the film with his frequent cohort Joby Jarrold in 2007, and was producing it with his wife Deborah Snyder for their Cruel & Unusual Films banner. Set in a quarantined, walled-off Las Vegas (The Playlist note some similarities with Escape From NY), it involves a father teaming up with a group of mercenaries to break his daughter out of the zombie-ravaged city.Van Heijningen was attached to direct Army before The Thing came along, and says that, "it was at a very far stage, like three months from shooting, but then the financial crisis hit in 2008 and everyone's projects got shrunk, so it was basically put on hold. But I really hope we can revive it; it's a great project. It would be nice to do it.""Nice" is perhaps not a word we'd use for a film that's reputed to feature zombie/human miscegenation and hybrid babies (Braindead, anyone?), but fascinatingly horrible as it sounds, Van Heijningen says much will depend on the performance of his feature debut: "It's all new to me. I have no idea how The Thing will be received or how much traction I'll get from it. I haven't experienced anything like this before..."His experience begins in the UK on December 2.

Glam Slam: Who Would Pay $39,000 For A Backpack?

First Published: October 6, 2011 1:35 PM EDT Credit: Getty Images LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Crocodile Backpack by The RowUm, not me! I mean its a nice bag and all. Its from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsens uber-upscale and understated line The Row. The bag is made of crocodile, which is extremely expensive, but really? Almost FORTY thousand dollars? For a backpack? Apparently, the bags are selling out at Barneys NY. WHO spends that kind of money on a backpack is the obvious question? WHY would they spend so much? Especially during these economic times. It was the first thing that sold off the shelf, Ashley Olsen told Womens Wear Daily. Even if I had that kind of dough, I would not spend it on a backpackcrocodile or not! With that kind of money, I might buy, oh, I dont know, a CAR maybe! Purse or car? Purse or car? A no-brainer for 99% of the population! For luxury loving fashionistas, this practically makes the Hermes Birkin bags look like a steal at a mere eight thousand dollars. If you want a Birkin in crocodile, those start at 30 grand, so the Olsens are aiming for the big guns with their first bag collection. Who would have thought the cute Full House twins would go from selling affordable clothes (including backpacks!) at Wal Mart to backpacks worth a nice car? I, for one, certainly didnt see it coming. 5 Brief Romances With 'Weekend' Director Haigh

LOS ANGELES (AP) The indie romance "Weekend," in theaters in limited release, is a sweet, wistful glimpse at a love that could have been from writer-director Andrew Haigh. It follows the brief but intense relationship between two young, gay men who meet in a boozy haze at a London club on a Friday night. They go home together, then spend the next couple of days having sex, taking drugs, sharing stories and forging a quick but genuine intimacy. It's shot with an engaging naturalism and written with a bracing honesty. So since we liked his film so much, we asked Haigh to join us in the Five Most space this week to pick his favorite ticking-clock romances and elaborate on his choices. Don't wait see these movies before it's too late: "Brief Encounter" (1945): From director David Lean, the ultimate tale of strong passions lurking underneath the repressed British exterior. The film ends with the famous scene at the train station when the two characters are heartbreakingly robbed of their final goodbye. (It was) written by Noel Coward, and there have always been rumors that it was really about two men, and if you watch it now in that context, it makes wonderful sense. "Last Night" (1998): Directed by Don McKellar, an end-of-the-world movie told with quiet simplicity. One of the stories follows two strangers, played by McKellar himself and Sandra Oh, who end up spending their last hours together. As the clock ticks away, they realize how much they like each other, and the final moment when they realize that they have actually fallen in love as the world ends around them is devastating. "Before Sunset" (2004): The second of the two films from director Richard Linklater is my favorite. It is a story of regrets and missed chances. Watching Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke roam the streets of Paris articulating all the things that might have been, you can't help but wish that things could have been different. You can't help but hope that this time it will, in fact, be different. You hope that he will not catch the plane back to the U.S., that he will stay. "Quiet City" (2007): From director Aaron Katz. A girl gets off a train and tries to find her friend but instead spends 24 hours hanging out with a stranger until she can track her down and get on with her life. Their time together is like a breath, a space. It is unpretentious, poetic and authentic. It is like watching a relationship develop right there in front of your eyes. "Lost in Translation" (2003): From director Sofia Coppola, another limited-time-frame story with return flights to catch for both the characters. A non-romantic romance that is just as important as a love affair. I love the way this film feels like time suspended, existing outside of their lives, lost in the haze of jet lag. You know it will not drastically change either character's lives but you just know that in some, almost inexplicable way, both are deeply affected by their time together.Copyright 2011 Associated Press. Michael Shannon Shines in 'Take Shelter'

Michael Shannon Shines in 'Take Shelter' By Jenelle Riley September 30, 2011 Remember when September was a dumping ground for mediocre movies that studios needed to clean out before rolling out the Oscar contenders? Well, it's the last week of the month and several terrific films are opening today. Not only that, but we still have some great movies like "Moneyball" and "Warrior" in theaters. Really, "Warrior" deserves to be doing better--if you haven't seen it yet, get out there and check out one of the best films of the year. Then hop on over to one of the other great films opening this weekend--"50/50" would be at the top of my list, but if you want some gory fun, you can't go wrong with "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." Both films are Back Stage Critic's Picks. Also opening this weekend, and one I truly hope doesn't get lost in the Oscar shuffle, is "Take Shelter," a beautiful and terrifying parable from writer-director Jeff Nichols featuring a ferocious performance from Michael Shannon. I've been a fan of Shannon's ever since his riveting turn in the play "Bug" as a paranoid Gulf War veteran, a role he reprised for the 2006 film version. He then wowed audiences as a mentally unstable man in "Revolutionary Road," which earned him an Oscar nod. Well, nobody does paranoia and mental instability better than Shannon, who is utterly amazing in "Take Shelter" as Curtis, a husband and father who begins to experience visions and dreams of an oncoming apocalyptic event. He then sets out to build a bomb shelter in his year, much to the confusion of his loving wife, portrayed by the always wonderful Jessica Chastain. Shannon is one of my favorite actors to talk to; there's something about his appearance (he looks about 7 feet tall and has wide, expressive eyes) mixed with that unique vocal cadence (a little Christopher Walken-ish) that, for some reason, endlessly amuses me. He's also exceptionally intelligent and knows more about the craft of acting than most people could hope to forget. I had the pleasure of moderating a Q&A with Shannon and Shea Whigham, who plays Curtis' best friend, last Saturday night, where a sold-out crowd could not stop praising the actor. Madonna Battles Back, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today

Happy Tuesday! Also in today’s edition of The Broadsheet: Willem Dafoe’s next tumbles into lawsuit limbo… A provocative question about interfaith sex finally gets its own movie adaptation… Seann William Scott’s hockey comedy finds a buyer up north… Danny Glover has unfortunate taste in footwear… and more. · After getting both a fistful of loathsome flowers and her ass handed to her in Venice, an unfazed Madonna regrouped and rallied for Monday night’s Toronto premiere of her directing effort W.E. Alas, one observer noted the film is in prime position to make a Golden Globes run (Ha! And, ouch), while yet another writes about the lukewarm audience response at the gala screening. Harvey Weinstein, meanwhile, did three premiere events in two countries on one night — W.E. and Coriolanus in Toronto, and I Don’t Know How She Does It in New York. I cannot love this man any more than I do at this moment. [NYT, Deadline] · Matthew Jones, who adapted his own novel Boot Tracks as a screenplay for a film featuring Willem Dafoe, Michelle Monaghan and Stephen Dorff, has requested an injunction preventing the adaptation’s release. Telling the story of “an ex-con who seeks vengeance for his jail-house mentor by going on a road trip with a woman he meets along the way,” the movie itself is said by Jones to have been produced from a radically altered, unauthorized version of his screenplay. Welcome to Hollywood? [THR, Esq.] · There is an actual Israeli documentary called Would You Have Sex With an Arab? [Variety] · Considering how many red-carpet events have gone off in the last week in Venice and Toronto, you’ve gotta hand it to Deauville attendee Danny Glover for running away with the single worst footwear decision of the fall festival season. What an upset! [Tumblr via Videogum] · The TIFF premiere Goon, featuring Seann William Scott as a not-so-bright bar bouncer recruited to be an enforcer for a minor-league hockey team, has a US distribution deal thanks to Magnet Releasing. Sarah Polley Talks 'Take This Waltz,' Human Love and Why Her Movie Could Make You Uncomfortable

Canadian actor/director Sarah Polley's latest directorial venture, 'Take This Waltz,' strays into uncomfortable territory: we have a youthful lady (Margot, carried out by Michelle Williams) who contemplates departing her doting husband (a subdued Seth Rogen) for your new titillating neighbor (Luke Kirby). The film floats using a colorful Toronto landscape as Margot bounces between persistence for her husband and passion for the completely new guy. Moviefone taken track of Polley within the Toronto Film Festival to talk about love, non-salacious nudity and why this movie is making lots of people feel unsettled. I felt similar to this movie will be a commentary on human associations. Are you able to believe that? Yeah, I really do. In my opinion, more to the level, it comes down lower to the notion that generally around we are feeling there's something missing which we make an effort to uncover an approach to covering that space so on after products to develop it. We believe that we'll then feel basically different about living whenever we have satisfied that factor. And so the greatest factor to educate yourself regarding that concept was desire and falling for one another. In my opinion this is actually the approach we decide to try think we'll be capable of reinvent ourselves, reinvent our life-style and remove the area within us. Therefore I preferred to understand more about that and the way difficult it's to actually appear like something isn't missing. Why the oversaturation, the elevated colour from the film? Well, I believed essentially produce a film about desire, I really wish to embrace and obtain into the actual way it feels when you fall crazily for each other or fall in lust. The earth does arrived at existence, it's in Technicolor, things pop and you also notice color that you didn't notice color and you also notice appear that you didn't notice appear. It's like several your senses are elevated into this hyper-real condition. Therefore I wanted everyone else to offer the experience that Margot has, of just falling into that sweltering desire in the start of rapport. I furthermore preferred to capture Toronto inside the somewhat-romanticized way I experience Toronto, that's through rose-colored glasses. I really do feel inside the summer season, when it's moist, hot and sticky it's kind of a stylish, hot, moist, popping colorful place. In my opinion you have to live here to discover that side from this -- Toronto's not necessarily an urban area that jumps to you if you're for five nights. However when you really live in the downtown locations that there's amazing residential areas in the heart of this urban atmosphere, it's incredible. You described this movie may be the love song to Toronto. Were the locations in which you found in the film areas that you just were familiar with, or perhaps you have uncover any new places? Many of them I certainly understood, like Kensington Market, more legendary places such as this. But we discovered a good deal too. The area scouting was awesome, because a number of it only decided to be walking lower streets while using production designer and seeing the city anew and finding corners and pockets that individuals didn't find out about, but weren't not even close to us. Very awesome. I really loved the actual fact you used the middle Island Scrambler inside the movie. That's really among the most popular steps you can take in Toronto -- that's autobiographical. Can they really play in the song there ['Video Destroyed r / c Star']? When I've been inside it a couple of occasions, they've carried out that song as well as the ride is infinitely better after they do. To the level where I sometimes make an effort to make my approach to the booth at night time to request them if they'd like to play that song rather. They can be kind of inflammed while using request, but it's awesome. I'll accept it 11 occasions, sometimes alone just like a grown lady, which is kind of frightening. Had you been trying to differentiate between sexual love and friendship love? With Seth Rogen, Williams gets the jokey, friendship-y type of love, there's very little a sexual connection there. I wouldn't say trying to differentiate, however do appear like I desired to educate yourself regarding what continues with a sexual relationship if you become very familiar with each other. Like, does it finish the passion or can people a few things exist? I've come across passion and familiarity co-exist, but it's rare which is difficult. Because, in the strange way, plenty of romantic love and a lot of that passionate, honeymoon period is in regards to the mystery in the other, just what happens when that mystery vanishes? There's this phenomenal line that Bette Davis states: "fifty percent from the woman's charm is mystery." In my opinion that is not just women, In my opinion it's males too, but that individuals lose our charm to each other somewhat once we lose our mystery. So then what? But this is actually the question it's difficult for people to request generally, "So then what?" It is not an problem we're ready for. We're just supposed to get the person we're deeply deeply in love with and settle lower, and everything's likely to be great, nevertheless it takes plenty of work, In my opinion. Furthermore, it involved being satisfied that things aren't always apt to be perfect. Which doesn't imply the conclusion around the world. The nudity was refreshing because it wasn't so salacious it absolutely was more sincere with techniques. Could be that the intention? I merely didn't desire to disassociate with nudity inside the film because I've had lots of conversations with older women, with pals inside the shower within the YWCA ... I've always just wondered, it's so strange that we wouldn't be capable of put this in the movie without everybody developing a really large deal from this. Therefore I just thought, "Screw it, I'm gonna take action. I don't care if people produce a large deal from this.In . I desired showing women's physiques honestly, the way they look and not oversexualized or greater-lit constantly. There are many incidental nudity inside the film, and there's sexual nudity too, however when I'm prone to have sexual nudity, I ought to also provide incidental nudity because in some manner otherwise it's dishonest. Tell me a little more about the pool aerobic fitness exercise scene with this particular Aquafit instructor, because honestly, I used to be crying with laughter. Oh, I'm so glad! That's certainly an objective of having a very awesome actor and letting him go. Plus it actually was funny because I mentioned, "Maybe we can look to a couple of classes just to acquire a sense of just what the is like." And I'd written a little for your instructor, good instructors I've had. But I'm a very non-athlete, to make sure that will be a huge challenge personally. Damien really needed the role and passed utilizing it... literally! What's it like coping with typically funny people like Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman after which it putting them into more dramatic roles? It absolutely was amazing. It absolutely was intimidating, nevertheless it was great. It's my job to felt like both Sarah and Seth had great dramatic performances included. To ensure that as interested in all of their own, I've always hungered to find out them do dramatic stuff. It absolutely was kind of a selfish proceed my part, just trying to determine these questions movie doing that. The strange factor about Seth Rogen is, around he's a great comedian, he might be an amount better dramatic actor. Michelle Williams is fantastic. Will there be any particular element that you just make an effort to infuse within your female figures? Yeah, we'd lots of talks. Michelle's a good deal like Julie Christie because she's one of the better stars in the world, who could do just about anything on their own, however , wants and likes plenty of direction. And then we had extended, very intensive conversations in regards to the character. Which is a more sophisticated character. She's not always always encouraging to every audience member and she's not always completely understanding. I believe that it is an extremely, very tricky tightrope walk to see that character and not go very one way or perhaps the other. A Few Things I find fascinating relevant for this film is always that people really project their unique relationship history about this. So you will discover individuals who're like, "I loved Margot! Finally somebody developed a film will have the ability to connect withInch and people are similar to, "I merely preferred to kill her, she's so selfish." I'm so thrilled with this because I appear like people are projecting their unique lives towards the film and feeling passionate and in some manner supporting their perspective. Even what she does within the finish -- if you have been people who've judged it so intensely. Celebrate me so very happy to understand that people are that devoted to the film.
