AMPAS, LACMA move forward on movie museum

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art board members are moving forward on the Academy's museum dedicated to movies. The two boards agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to work in good faith in establishing the Academy's museum. The museum would be located in the former May Co. building at the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax on the Miracle Mile. The memo puts in motion plans for the two to discuss a future contract and for the Academy to develop plans for future designs and construction. The Academy had acquired a site on Vine St. near the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study but decided not to pursue the fundraising that would have been required for the large-scale project.
